The hentai gaming market is blossoming into it’s own so of course eSports were bound to show up sooner or later. A few weeks ago Nutaku announced their first step into eSports with their Lewd Gaming Championship. YouPorn which is owned by MindGeek the same parent company that Nutaku is under will be sponsoring the games. Here’s what they had to say about their venture into e-sports:
“By expanding into eSports, Nutaku will be able to meet the ongoing demands of our diverse community who have been asking for competitive adult games.” says Ben Faccio, Product Manager at Nutaku. “Boasting some great experience in the eSports arena with Team YP, YouPorn was a natural fit for our tournament sponsor.” Nutaku shared that the competitive PVP mobile title, TnT, was chosen for the upcoming tournament. “TnT is definitely one of our most coveted titles,” notes Faccio, “think World of Tanks but with fully uncensored anime action integrated into the game play. We’re confident TnT will bring in a trove of lewd gamers and take the world of eSports to the next level.” Source: Nutaku Press Release
This brings up a lot of questions for me as a gamer inside and outside of lewd gaming. It’s no secret that Nutaku games can be very much pay-to-win. So I have to wonder what will be put into place to help keep the playing field fair and based off of talent and not how much money they spent they spent on their account.
I believe if this is executed in the proper way it would be a big step for lewd gaming in general. My hope is that publicizing it not only makes the genre more widely accepted but encourages game developers to make more competitive adult games.
The tournament will launch in Fall 2018 and will have a 64 player bracket. As far as prizing goes YouPorn is offering 64 premium memberships for a year for each participant and Nutaku is offering a prize pool of $25,000.
